Scope

The 33rd Annual Symposium on Applied Surface Analysis is being hosted by the AVS Hudson Mohawk Chapter of  at The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, University at Albany, State University of New York. The symposium will provide a forum for discussion of the quantitative and qualitative aspects of surface analysis. The theme of the meeting will be Surface Microscopy and Microanalysis.

As is traditional for the meeting, an equipment exhibition will be held, featuring vendors of surface analytical an vacuum technology equipment.

Student participation in this meeting is highly encouraged and will be subsidized. There will also be a monetary prize for the best student poster paper.

Topics

All traditional and emerging methods of surface, thin film, and nano materials analyses, and their applications, will be considered, including technique/instrument development, data reduction/handling, and sample preparation.

Applications in the following areas are particularly encouraged: 

  • Alternative Energy (solar, batteries, etc)

  • Bio and Biomaterials

  • High k-dielectrics

  • Advanced interconnects

  • Nanoanalysis

  • Catalysis

  • Environmental

  • Practical Use of Synchrotron Radiation

  • Material characterization challenges
